Cyrilla pulchella

This hand-colored print is one of the very first illustrations of a Gesneriad, the second-oldest of those shown on this website. There is a clear print impression, which does not show up well on the scan. The flower color was originally bright red, but in the print to the right the paint has apparently oxidized to a muddy reddish brown. The print to the left is much truer to the actual color of the flower.

A photo of a plant in flower can be seen here.
