This was the first publication of this fine species.

Note that only part of the engraved print has been hand-colored. This allows for illustration of the color of the flowers and of color variation between the top and bottom surfaces of the leaf, while saving colorist time. It also allows for a clearer view of the bud structures and the emerging inflorescences than if the background to those elements were colored.

The print was soon copied by Van Houtte, two slightly different version of which can be seen here.
