This species has the large leaves with the “stained glass” panes of some members of the Dalbergaria group, but the fimbriate calyces of members of the Trichantha group.  A closeup of the flowers shows the unusual form of the calyx and corolla. Other Columneas with fimbriate calyces include C. minor and C. fimbricalyx.
