Abstract

After conducting botanical expeditions in the central jungle of Peru and examining the herbaria material, we describe four new species of Gesneriaceae (subfamily Gesnerioideae, tribe Gesnerieae) from the Biosphere Reserve Oxapampa-Asháninka-Yanesha (BIOAY): Columnea cesarii R.Ro- jas, Vásquez & L. Valenz; Columnea yanachagaensis R.Rojas, A.Monteagudo & J.Flores; Drymonia quinquagesima R.Rojas & Vásquez and Drymonia vasquezii R.Rojas & E.Pinche. Here, we provide detailed descriptions of these four species, along with ecological information, notes on related taxa, diagnostic characters, and data on their geographic distribution. Based on these discoveries, the documented diversity of Peruvian species of Gesneriaceae increases up to 224.
