Streptocarpus kimbozanus is named after its locality, the Kimboza Forest in the Uluguru Mountains near the town of Morogoro in Tanzania. The Uluguru Mountains, which form part of the Eastern Arc Mountains are the home of many Streptocarpus including many former Saintpaulia species. S. kimbozanus occurs there but also in the Udzungwa Mountains further south.

The growth of this species is somewhat peculiar in that it starts growing a single leaf, almost like a unifoliate member of subgenus Streptocarpus , but then a herbaceous stem arises from the base which is similar to the growth form of other members of subgenus Streptocarpella, Flowering is typically from the axils of the leaves on the stem.

All photos were taken by Andrea Bianchi, who is a botanist working in Tanzania. Among other things he has a continuing interest in the rich diversity of Streptocarpus in Tanzania, and frequently posts new discoveries on www.iNaturalist.org.
