Streptocarpus venosus is another Madagascan Streptocarpus which reminds one of the former genus Saintpaulia, but it does not group in the Madagascan Section Parasaintpaulia, but rather in Section Hova, which includes many other herbaceous species. It always has a more creeping habit, often growing on moss covered rocks, even in streams, and possess very small pouch shaped flowers (7-8 mm long). It grows in the extremely moist forests in south-east Madagascar near the coastal town of Tolagnaro, formerly called Fort Dauphin. The photographs shown here were taken at the Col de Manongotry and in the Maloto valley. This species is extremely threatened by deforestation brought about by increased human pressure.
