Streptocarpus milanjianus occurs on the highest mountain in Malawi, Mount Mulanje, in the far south of the country. It grows on steep earthen banks and even logs in forest. Its pleated leaves (up to 33 cm long) and short tube-shaped flower (15-22 mm long) with purple lines inside would make it an attractive horticultural subject. The leaves are attached to a creeping rhizome by petiolodes (stems) on which each large leaf grows which allows the plant to spread.
