This species was introduced some years ago as an unidentified Pearcea collected in Ecuador. It has been exhibited under several names, including Pearcea sp. Ecuador, and Pearcea aff. sprucei. On the advice of John L. Clark, research botanist specializing in Gesneriaceae at Selby Gardens, we are calling it Pearcea aff. sprucei (Ecuador).
