Seemannia ‘Chic’ is a fairly robust member of this group of attractive plants. It was an early hybrid within the genus, produced by Lyndon Lyon — this particular plant was grown at Lyndon Lyon Greenhouses. The shiny green leaves offset the bright red fat pouched flowers to good effect. S. ‘Chic’ prefers quite high humidity and moist conditions, and is therefore well suited to terrarium culture, although it can be grown successfully in the open. It is propagated by tip cuttings or scaly rhizomes. When stressed, the plant will produce many wiry aerial propagules.
This plant was shown at the AGGS Convention in 1998. The whole plant can be seen by clicking here. A conservatory planting shows the flexibility of the hybrid.
