This is an attractive species of Streptocarpus, subg. Streptocarpella, and can be grown in greenhouse beds to spectacular effect. It is one of the rare subg. Streptocarpella species to have been used in hybridizing, and is a parent with S. caulescens of the hybrid ‘Epupa Falls’.

At one time the species was considered a variety of Streptocarpus caulescens, but was subsequently raised to species status under the name pallidiflorus, which had been used to describe this form in 1906. It appears to have a more limited distribution than caulescens, occurring only in Tanzania and not Kenya.

The species is variable in color, and there are blue forms. It grows in relatively shaded forested areas in the hills and mountains of northern Tanzania,
