This hybrid is from Dibley’s Nurseries in Wales, and has been distributed in North America under the name ‘Grape Ice’ as part of the Ladyslippers series of Streptocarpus. Dibley’s Nurseries is a long-time hybridizer and grower of Streptocarpus, and have won numerous awards for their work, including medals for best display at the annual Chelsea Flower Show.
Dibley’s considers Str. ‘Polka Dot Purple’ as one of their finest hybrids; easy to grow, extremely floriferous and very beautiful.
We are using Str. ‘Polka Dot Purple’ as the name for this cultivar as it was first introduced that way, even though most of the material in cultivation in North America is as Str. ‘Grape Ice’.
