Kaisupeea is named in honor of Prof. Kai Larsen and his Thai wife, Professor Supee Saksuwan Larsen, both of whom have studied and published many works on Thai plants. Prof. Larsen is also one of the co-founders of Flora of Thailand Project.

Kaisupeea is a genus distributed in South-east Asia, from Myanmar through Thailand and parts of Laos, often growing on Limestone rocks. There are three species, K. herbacea, K. cyanea and K. orthocarpa, as well as at least one unnamed species. They are unusual in several respects, including being perennial — above-ground foliage dies back, and resprouts in season from an underground bud.
