Abstract

Alsobia magnifica is described and illustrated as a new species from Chiapas, Mexico. The new species is known from collections from the karstic cliffs of the Parque Nacional Cañón del Sumidero, and like Alsobia chiapensis, is an endemism of the Grijalva River basin in the state. It differs with the last one species among other characters, by the larger size of the flowers, coloration and size of the corolla lobes, the shape of the leaves as well as the blooming time.
