Sinningia nordestina is described and illustrated. Morphological and molecular characters are discussed. It is a new species endemic to northeastern Brazil and is distinguished from other members of the genus by its vestigial tubers, ascending pedicels with pendent flowers, small corollas, and deviating flowering period.
