Abstract

The genus Aeschynanthus Jack (Gesneriaceae) comprises about 160 species distributed in Indomalesian region (Mabberley 2008). In India the genus is represented by 26 species along with a doubtful taxon (Bhattacharyya and Goel 2015) and another species A. angustioblongus W. T. Wang has also been reported recently from India (Dutta et al. 2015). In India the species of this genus are distributed throughout the Himalayas with a few species in Southern India and one species in the South Andamans. During taxonomic studies on the genus in North East India, it has been noticed that Aeschynanthus hookeri C. B. Clarke, A. mannii Kurz ex C. B. Clarke and A. monetarius Dunn need to be lectotypified.
