In India the species of this genus are distributed throughout the Himalayas with a few species in Southern India and one species in the South Andamans. During taxonomic studies on the genus in North East India, it has been noticed that Aeschynanthus hookeri C. B. Clarke, A. mannii Kurz ex C. B. Clarke and A. monetarius Dunn need to be lectotypified.
