Study of Gesneriaceae for the Flora of Ecuador and the Catalogue of the Vascular Plants of Ecuador has shown that some recently published new species need to be transferred with new combinations in Columnea: C. filifera, C. katzensteinii, C. mastersonii, C. medicinalis, C. ornata, and C. tandapiana, or included as synonyms of previously published species.
