Location continental Africa: This section which includes species that were viewed as classical Streptocarpella species, contains typical caulescent herbaceous species with flowers that are unique to the section. These “personate flowers”, with a constricted throat limiting access to select pollinators, are attractive, with an enlarged lower corolla lip which is bent relative to the tube by almost 90°. It is thought that this lower floral lip, which consists of two fused corolla lobes, serves as a landing platform for insects. Once landed on this platform, this gives way and opens the corolla tubes for pollination. However, pollinators have never been observed on their flowers and the mode of pollination remains unsolved. They have excellent horticultural potential more as herbaceous plants than potted houseplants.
