The following link leads the reader to a listing of all currently (2025) described Streptocarpus species with authors indicated in their respective sections. DNA data for all species was not available for the allocation of all species to the different sections. Species indicated with * indicates placement based on morphological grounds made by Nishii et al. (2015). Species indicated with ** were described after 2015 and indicates species placement based on morphological grounds by Dirk Bellstedt based on the species descriptions which often refer to which closest species a new species would key out to be. Section type species are underlined. Please note that the species indicated with one or two asterisks are placed immediately after the species that is the most similar to them based on their morphological characters. Those species indicated with “comb. nov.” previously had a different genus name, see Nishii et al., 2015. Those species not included in the molecular phylogeny and not included in sections are indicated in a list of unclassified species or as they are referred to in Latin, Incertae Sedis.
Please note that the listing of the species in Section Streptocarpus is in the order in which they appear in the phylogeny as published in Nishii et al., 2015. The five groups into which these species are ordered are according to the clades as they appear in the phylogeny.
Pages featuring images of many of these species can be found within the genus Streptocarpus (and within the section Saintpaulia descriptions) on this website.
The current species listing is in the form of a detailed spreadsheet, which can be downloaded here.
