Conrad Gesner

Conrad Gesner quite likely never saw a Gesneriad in his life (although it’s possible, there are alpine Gesneriads in Europe, and Gesner was an inveterate mounain hiker).

However, this great naturalist and botanist was honored by Linnaeus through the use of his name as the basis for the genus Gesneria, which subsequently gave its name to the whole Gesneriad family.
