This appears to be a very early Sinningia hybrid involving what were known at the time as Gesneria discolor and Gloxinia rubra. We now know these as Sinningia gigantifolia and Sinningia speciosa ‘Rubra’, respectively. It is undoubtedly one of the first hybrids involving the latter selection from the species, the source of the saturated red colors in the modern Siningia speciosa hybrids.
An earlier publication by Lemaire (1854) under the name Gesneria donkelaariana gives the hybridizing information.
