Gesneria douglasii var. verticillata

For many years, this species was known as Sinningia verticillata.  This has recently been corrected to Sinningia douglasii.  It is interesting to see that both specific names were once used simultaneously.

This in fact was the version of the species that I first grew in the 1980s, and its flowers were indeed, as Paxton says in the notes to this print, beautiful and delicate, and it produced two tiers of flowers as the name (verticillata) implied. Note the red pedicels and veins in the leaves.

Other prints of the douglasii version of the species can be seen here, here, here and here, and a photograph of a plant here.
