Achimenes ‘Vivid’ is an older but very fine hybrid. It is a relatively compact trailer, and the bright pink flowers show up very nicely against the dark greenish maroon foliage. It is easy to grow, and a prodigious producer of rhizomes.
A. ‘Vivid’ was obtained from a commercial supplier in Toronto along with rhizomes of a hybrid called A. ‘Spark’. The latter turned out to be the classic hybrid A. ‘Ambroise Verschaffelt’, renamed for retail trade. It is quite possible that ‘Vivid’ is also a renamed hybrid, but we haven’t seen anything else like it.
