The featured plant above was exhibited at the 2016 convention of the Gesneriad Society.
This species has attractively leafy bracts and calyces, leaves with light green veins and large purple flowers. It only grows in northern Ecuador and due to its restricted distribution it is considered vulnerable to extinction.
Other species of Drymonia with showy foliage include D. variegata and D. macrophylla.
