The featured plant above was exhibited at the 2017 convention of the Gesneriad Society.

This species has an attractively leafy calyx, leaves with light green veins and large purple flowers. Another show plant, exhibited at the 2016 convention of the Gesneriad Society, can be seen here.

This species only grows in northern Ecuador, and due to its restricted distribution it is vulnerable to extinction.

Other species of Drymonia with showy foliage include D. variegata and D. macrophylla.
