Microchirita elphinstonia, like most members of the genus, is an upright-growing annual plant — it dies after growing for a seaon, during which it flowers and sets seed. It is native to tropical Asia.
Mr. Okuto, the grower and photographer, reports that like M. lavandulacea and M. micromusa, this species will produce flowers after having produced very few leaves, if grown under short-day conditions.
