The feature plant has the Smithsonian accession number USBRG 1998-251. The plant was grown from seed supplied by Mauro Peixoto of BrazilPlants, Sao Paolo, Brazil, with his accession number MP891. The species is quite variable in flower form and color.
- Another plant grown from the same lot of seed is paler and has dark markings on the external of the corolla; it was exhibited at the 2002 convention show of the American Gloxina and Gesneriad Society
- The color variation includes even darker flowers than the feature photo above
- A plant in full bloom shows different patterning and color
