This species was grown from seed sent to Maryjane Evans by Mauro Peixoto of Sao Paolo, Brazil. At the time it was confused with plants that turned out to be Sinningia polyantha. The latter has tall flowerstalks and hairy leaves in threes, while this species has semi-glossy leaves in pairs with peduncles growing from the crown.
