Sinningia sulphurea was first formally described in 2022, and so is a relatively recent addition to the roster of Sinningia species. The flower has a beautiful fairly rich yellow color, and can be flowered well in cultivation. The photo above is of a prize winning plant exhibited at the 2026 convention show of The Gesneriad Society, exhibited by Dave Zaitlin.
S. sulphurea is fairly closely related genetically to Sinningia barbata, which which it is also morphologically similar, aside from the tuber structures. S. sulphurea produces many small round tubers, rather than a single large one.
