Streptocarpus madagascaricus is a species from Madagascar that does not have twisted capsules so was not identified initially as a Streptocarpus. It was originally named Hovanella madagascarica. Due to the DNA analysis in Nishii et al., 2015, which confirmed that it was indeed a Streptocarpus, it was then renamed Streptocarpus madagascaricus, but its former genus name is retained in the section in which it is now placed which is named Hova.
It is yet another charming member of subgenus Streptocarpella from Madagascar which holds distinct horticultural potential.
