Streptocarpus shumensis is a diminutive plant that has been widely used in hybridizing to create small-growing cultivars. It is endemic to Shume in the west Usambara Mountains and in the Nguru Mountains, both in Tanzania. Its typical habitat is moist mossy rock faces, and similar locations.

There are selections from the species, including the plant in the feature photo above, which is referred to as Streptocarpus shumensis cl. Mather EE.
