Location continental Africa: Their growth habitat is either a creeping rhizome or caulescent with small white pouch shaped flowers. This section is named after one member in this section that was formerly placed in genus Schizoboea. This species was originally described as Roettlera kamerunensis in genus Roettlera sect Schizoboea by Fritsch (1897) but was subsequently placed in genus Schizoboea as Schizoboea kamerunensis by Burtt (1974) after which it was renamed Streptocarpus kamerunensis by Nishii et al., 2015. In the new taxonomy, this species is placed with a few other species in Section Schizoboea. They are widely distributed in remote rainforest habitats in central Africa from the Congo in the west to Tanzania in the east. Their potential in horticulture is limited except for the caulescent species Streptocarpus thysanotus and would probably only be cultivated because of their odd growth habits.
Species in section Schizoboea:
Streptocarpus elongatus
Streptocarpus gonjaensis*
Streptocarpus kamerunensis
Streptocarpus kimbozanus
Streptocarpus muscicola*
Streptocarpus thysanotus
