Location continental Africa: All of the species in this section have small pouch shaped flowers. Two of the species (S. parensis and S. schliebeni) are caulescent and can be cultivated indoors or in temperate gardens. The rest of the species can only be described as oddballs with creeping rhizome stem morphologies which are uncommon in the genus. This group includes two species in the former genus Linneopsis, originally described separately because of its atypical non-twisting seed capsules. Streptocarpus heckmannianus was originally described as Linnaeopsis heckmanniana by Engler (1900). Streptocarpus subscandens was originally described from a specimen that had no fruit as Linneopsis subscandens because of its similarities to Linneaopsis heckmanniana, but when it was collected with twisted seed capsules it was clear that it should indeed be a member of genus Streptocarpus. Streptocarpus lineatus was originally described as Nodonema lineatum (Burtt 1982). Both genera are now incorporated in Section Protostreptocarpus.
