his group consists of rosulate and unifoliate species with mostly open tubed flowers and occurs in an area which can be described as a band across Africa, ranging from Angola to Malawi and Tanzania. S. huamboensis, a tiny rosulate species, occurs in very small area on a mountain top in central Angola. Similarly, S. hirticapsa is a dwarf species growing in rock cracks on the high Chimanimani and Vumba mountain ranges on the eastern boundary of Zimbabwe with Mozambique. S. nimbicola and S. milanjianus occur on Mount Malawi. S. milanjianus has a very attractive keyhole flower which is shown in the frontispiece of the book on the genus by Hilliard and Burtt (1971). This species and the miniature ones have distinct horticultural potential because of their attractive miniature form or flowers but are not in horticulture as yet.
