This group which grows in central to eastern South Africa, consists only of unifoliates which are mainly monocarpic and most possess attractive deep to pale mauve flowers, many with the attractive keyhole shape, others are tube-shaped. Despite their unifoliate growth pattern they have been used to generate crosses with rosulate species from the Rexii group and the hybrids are then often rosulate. From a hybridization point of view these species have considerable horticultural potential.
