This is the peloric form of S. cardinalis, without a hood and with equally distributed lobes. A similar mutation may have given rise to the familiar peloric “trumpets” of the modern hybirds of Sinningia speciosa.
When crossed with S. cardinalis ‘Innocent’, the white form of hooded S. cardinalis, white-flowered peloric plants were also created. A series of other peloric-flowered plants of this type have since been created. Examples are Sinningia ‘Bewitched’ and S. ‘Tomorrow’.
