S. ‘Freckles’ is a hybrid of S. concinna and S. hirsuta and is one of the first (and still few) occasions that S. hirsuta has been successfully used as a parent. However the overall habit of the plant and especially the flower size and shape are much closer to concinna which is one of the true microminiatures along with S. pusilla. Technically, this cultivar is classified as a miniature, though, because one parent, S. hirsuta, is a standard species, and not a micro-miniature.
