Location Madagacascar: All species in this section are caulescent herbs up to about 50 cm in size. The species now described as Streptocarpus madagascaricus was described as Hovanella madagascarica (Weber & Burtt, 1998). This former genus name is reflected in the section name of Hova. Almost all possess small pouch shaped white flowers with some markings in the corollas. Streptocarpus hilsenbergii is one exception in that it has tube-shaped lavender or red flowers which are the biggest of all of the Madagascan species and has huge horticultural potential. Another exception is Streptocarpus thompsonii, which has small white flowers but without the pouch shape. Some of the species in the genus are available horticulturally and can be quite successfully grown from seed.
