This group consists only of rosulates which possess open tube white to mauve flowers often with attractive mauve lines or yellow markings in their throats. Streptocarpus lilliputana is the only species to possess Acanth-type flowers in the genus. They form the bulk of the species from which hybrids have been generated. As such the whole group possesses enormous horticultural potential with the distinct potential of using more species for hybridization purposes. Except for a few, most species are in cultivation. They represent the most southerly radiation of the genus and S. rexii, the type species of the genus, occurs about 300 km to the east of the southern tip of the African continent but the range of the group is to the Zoutpansberg Mountains in north of South Africa, just south of the Zimbabwean border.
